Private Cloud → Multicloud — Orange Business

Product strategy, continuity planning and investment case · Business preserved

The starting point

Orange ran private enterprise infrastructure for customers with existing workloads. A vendor and hardware-supply crisis threatened its ability to maintain and grow the service. Closing it and migrating customers were real options.

Keeping the business alive needed a workable supply path and a reason for customers to stay. Hardware, architecture, economics and the offer had to be worked out together.

Preserve the useful capability, then broaden the customer proposition.

What I did

  1. Compare continuity with exit I worked through three options: keep operating, redesign, or migrate to other cloud providers. I dug into the virtualization, server, storage, network and data-center dependencies so product and investment decisions matched the real technical constraints.
  2. Find a viable supply alternative When the usual channels became difficult, I personally found an alternative supplier of refurbished enterprise hardware. The wider evaluation covered suppliers, vendors and replacement platforms. I built that option into the investment case and helped secure continued funding.
  3. Reframe private IaaS as multicloud I designed an offer combining Orange’s private infrastructure with partner-cloud services. The customer proposition was one integrated network environment with a single commercial and service contact, instead of buying and coordinating each provider separately.

The outcome

The private-cloud business remained in operation and hardware was procured to support continuity. The FCA product recorded approximately 41% year-on-year growth in 2022.

A product-level outcome delivered with the wider Orange team, not an individual sales result. Redesign proposals and investment forecasts are not presented as delivered architecture or realized financials.
